Esme Prince is making a return on General Hospital, and actress Avery Kristen Pohl was excited for the same. However, the way that she came back was very different from what fans had expected. She featured as a haunting figure inside Laura Collins’ nightmare. The cameo was short and appeared during the December 5 episode.
Avery Kristen Pohl says she missed playing Esme on General Hospital ‘a lot.’
Avery Kristen Pohl talked about her return to General Hospital as Esme Prince. She said it was a quick and joyful experience for her. Pohl expressed, “It was the quickest little pop-in, but it was so fun to see everybody. We filmed [the episode] a week after the [Daytime] Emmys. So I got to catch up with everybody and then go see them at work a week later, which was really fun.” (via Soap Opera Digest)
Because the appearance was a dream sequence, Pohl approached Esme differently than she would have if the character had actually come back from the dead. She explained that playing a character inside another person’s subconscious is different. Pohl said, “Getting to look at your character from a slightly different perspective and lens keeps things fresh and interesting.”
Esme Prince had a dramatic ending on General Hospital before she made her recent return. The character fell off a yacht alongside Spencer Cassadine. This storyline left both characters presumed dead. However, soap operas rarely treat presumed deaths as final.
Thus, Avery Kristen Pohl was asked whether Esme might still be out there. She said, “I would like to think that she is on a little vacation somewhere. Maybe she stuck around France, maybe she’s like, in Morocco on a camel somewhere.” She then joked, “If there’s not a body, you’re not dead.”
The actress also claimed that she had spent her late teens and early twenties on the General Hospital set. Thus, going back felt like visiting high school.
