Gayle King pushed back against the rumors that she is leaving CBS Mornings. The anchor said that she will avoid the speculation and keep doing her job. The longtime host talked about her work on Sherri on December 11, 2025. She decided not to add fuel to the fire while CBS is currently undergoing staff changes.
Gayle King says she wants to ‘stay out of the drama’ about her CBS future
Gayle King talked to Sherri about her future at CBS Mornings when asked if she was leaving it. The anchor said, “I’ve decided I’m going to stay out of the drama — and there is some drama. I’m going to stay out of that. I’m just going to continue to do my job.”
Her comments came after Variety reported in October that she might leave when her contract ends. However, King made clear she would not air negotiations in public.
The remarks followed CBS’s announcement that Tony Dokoupil will move to CBS Evening News in January. King acknowledged the change will bring shifts to the morning lineup but did not link that directly to her status.
A CBS News spokesperson previously told USA TODAY that “there have been no discussions with Gayle about her contract that runs through May 2026,” and described Gayle King as “a truly valued part of CBS.”
King also said the public conversation has sometimes conflicted with what she hears inside the building. “What I say is this, I’m not going to negotiate in the press, but I hear one thing in the building and one side outside of the building. I’ll be reading an article and going, ‘That’s not true,’” she said. She added that the mixed messaging has baffled her.
Still, King made it plain she enjoys the work and has no immediate backup plan. “I don’t go in hypotheticals,” she said, adding that she believes “everything works out the way it’s supposed to.” For now, King will remain on the air.
