The world of Game of Thrones is making its way to the big screen soon, with a movie based on the iconic set of novels now being developed.
What do we know about the Game of Thrones movie?
According to a new report from THR, Warner Bros. is officially working on a movie set in the world of author George R.R. Martin’s works. Earlier this year, reports that a movie could be in the works first popped up, but now it seems that those are much more than just reports.
Page Six Hollywood notes that Beau Willimon, who has written for the Star Wars series Andor, is being eyed to write the project and has already turned in an initial draft for the movie. While it’s unclear exactly what the movie will focus on, we do know some details from past and current reporting.
Much like the reports at the time, reports from THR and Page Six Hollywood note that the movie may end up centering around Aegon I, also known as Aegon the Conqueror or Aegon the Dragon, the first Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, king on the Iron Throne, and the founder of the Targaryen dynasty. Much of the story of A Song of Ice and Fire dates back to Aegon I, although fans have yet to see him in any live-action projects.
Of course, any news involving Warner Bros. as of right now will be thrown into a state of limbo as they continue with their expected sale to Paramount Skydance. However, due to the popularity and size of Game of Thrones’ influence, it wouldn’t be too shocking to see the movie make its way through the merger without any issue.
The Game of Thrones franchise continues to remain one of HBO’s most popular. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, a spin-off based on a series of novelas by Martin, recently aired to critical acclaim on HBO. House of the Dragon is also set to air its highly anticipated third season this summer, and HBO has several other Game of Thrones-related projects in the works, including an animated take on The Sea Snake.
