In a recent interview, the Game of Thrones star reflected on their years together, crediting his wife with being a steady presence during some of the most challenging chapters of his life, both professionally and personally.
Kit Harington opens up about his marriage to Rose Leslie
Opening up in a sit-down, Kit Harington gave a rare glimpse into his marriage with Leslie Rose, painting it as warm, real, and rooted in the little things. He shared that they’re big on showing affection and never hold back from saying “I love you.” What he admires most, he said, is Leslie’s sincerity, calling her “genuine” and admitting he feels “very, very lucky (via Mr. Porter)” to have her by his side.
Harington also spoke candidly about the tougher chapters of their journey. He’s been open in the past about battling depression and addiction during and after Game of Thrones, and he credited Leslie for standing firm through it all. She showed up for all the “hard stuff” when things were messy and difficult, supporting him as he fought through recovery and adjusted to major life shifts.
Harington has never sugar-coated that chapter of his life, often talking about how alcohol was tied to what he’s called a dark and traumatic period. In a 2021 interview with The Sunday Times, the actor shared how addiction dragged him into a loop of guilt and self-criticism, until he realized getting sober meant accepting that change was possible. Since then, he’s openly credited Leslie for helping him find compassion for himself again after rehab.
Becoming a dad has also shifted his whole perspective. Harington and Leslie are parents to two kids, a son born in 2021 and a daughter born in 2023, and he says fatherhood came at exactly the right time. Speaking to Mr. Porter, he added that he feels confident in the role, saying he believes he’s “good at being a dad.”
