Netflix will soon start streaming Copshop, an almost forgotten neo noir action thriller movie featuring Gerard Butler, Frank Grillo, and Alexis Louder. Released in 2021, it takes place in the police station of a small town and revolves around a three-way conflict between a hitman, a rookie cop, and a con artist. Joe Carnahan directed the movie from a script by him and Kurt McLeod, basing it on a story the latter developed with Mark Williams.
Copshop begins streaming on Netflix in early February
Copshop will become available for streaming on Netflix on February 1, 2026.
Following its release, the Gerard Butler movie received a mostly positive response from critics. It currently has an 83 percent Tomatometer score on the review-aggregating site Rotten Tomatoes, based on 111 reviews. Moreover, the film scored 74 percent on the Popcornmeter.
Michael O’Sullivan of The Washington Post wrote, “Though there’s no reinvention of the genre here, Louder’s mesmerizing mouse proves more than a match for the assembled tomcats – all exuding machismo – with whom she must deal.”
Meanwhile, Cary Darling of the Houston Chronicle noted, “Alexis Louder is a star. She’s absolutely magnetic in Copshop, an energetically entertaining B-movie joyride through the visuals, music, and blood-splattered plots of such ‘70s crime films as Super Fly and Assault on Precinct 13 with a detour through the American Western for good measure.” However, despite the positive reviews, the movie didn’t find much success at the box office.
In Copshop, Butler portrays Bob Viddick, an assassin, whereas Frank Grillo essays the con artist Teddy Murretto. Furthermore, Alexis Louder appears as the rookie cop Val Young. The cast also includes Toby Huss as Anthony Lamb, Chad Coleman as Sgt. Duane Mitchell, Ryan O’Nan as Officer Huber, Jose Pablo Cantillo as Officer Pena, Kaiwi Lyman-Mersereau as Officer Barnes, Tracey Bonner as Detective Deena Schier, and Keith Jardine as Trooper.
