President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on actor Robert De Niro, labeling the Hollywood icon “sick and demented” and suggesting some of his recent comments cross into criminal territory. The outburst came as part of a broader Truth Social tirade following the State of the Union address.
Donald Trump responds to Robert De Niro’s ‘enemy of this country’ comments
The president’s anger appeared directed at De Niro’s recent appearance on the MS NOW podcast, where the two-time Oscar winner didn’t hold back. “Trump is the enemy of this country, let’s not kid ourselves,” De Niro stated. “It’s that simple. Everybody has to stick together to get them out and get back on track.”
Donald Trump didn’t take kindly to the characterization. In his lengthy Truth Social post, he grouped De Niro with Democratic Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, who heckled him during the address.
“When you watch Low IQ Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, as they screamed uncontrollably last night at the very elegant State of the Union, such an important and beautiful event, they had the bulging, bloodshot eyes of crazy people, LUNATICS, mentally deranged and sick who, frankly, look like they should be institutionalized,” Trump posted.
He then turned his attention to De Niro, writing that the representatives “should actually get on a boat with Trump Deranged Robert De Niro, another sick and demented person with, I believe, an extremely Low IQ, who has absolutely no idea what he is doing or saying — some of which is seriously CRIMINAL!”
Trump also mocked the actor for becoming emotional during interviews. “When I watched him break down in tears last night, much like a child would do, I realized that he may be even sicker than Crazy Rosie O’Donnell.”
Robert De Niro, who has been a vocal Donald Trump critic since his first term, participated in a counterprogramming event sponsored by Defiance.org. He expressed disappointment in the nation’s direction. “The bottom line is that I feel betrayed by my country,” the actor said. “It doesn’t have to be perfect but it does need to return to the values that gave us our strength and humanity” (via Deadline).
