ComingSoon Editor-in-Chief Tyler Treese spoke with Dolly stars Max the Impaler and Fabianne Therese about the violent new horror movie. The duo discussed the film’s disturbing scenes, its stunts, and if a sequel could happen. Also starring Seann William Scott and Ethan Suplee, it is out in theaters on March 6, 2026.
“A young woman, Macy, fights for survival after being abducted by a deranged, monster-like figure who wants to raise Macy as their child. A daring blend of New French Extremity and 1970s American horror,” says the synopsis.
Tyler Treese: Max, I wanted to ask how you approach this sort of character. Do you lead with empathy when you’re trying to figure out a character like this, who’s so depraved? How do you find an “in” to playing this masked doll killer? It’s quite the role.
Max the Impaler: I don’t know that I would say Dolly is depraved. I would say that there is a bit of innocence to Dolly, and Dolly is just leading with what they know to be true and their instinct. I pulled a lot of my own trauma and neurodivergent tendencies into playing Dolly. I think Dolly is pretty complex. And I think when you watch the film that you’ll feel a variety of things for Dolly and for Macy, and I think Dolly’s a unique slasher.
There are those moments where Dolly is trying to take care of the character. Like, even as misguided as it is, there is a sense of care to it, which is definitely different from a lot of slashers.
Max the Impaler: Caring as Dolly knows it to be.
Fabianne, I want to ask you about Seann William Scott as a scene partner because you and he establishing that relationship at the beginning is really key to just getting viewers invested in the characters. Then, when everything hits the fan, they’re willing to go on that journey. So what stood out about Seann as a scene partner?
Fabianne Therese: I mean, he’s just number one. He’s such a great actor, and was so down to rehearse and go through all of our scenes in a way that resembles almost like theater, which I come from. So we really worked through our stuff. But also, he was just such a fun person. In between takes, we were joking, and we were laughing, and he’s so sincere and so eager and excited that it made. Yeah, it was really contagious. His energy and his excitement were so contagious.
Max, how did your pro wrestling background help you with the stunts? Because obviously, you have experience in keeping the people you’re working with safe. So, did that really help you with doing these pretty high-impact scenes?
Max the Impaler: Yeah. I mean, we had a really good stunt coordinator that helped. And, honestly, the parallels are almost identical in the things that we do. It was a lot more easy, if I’m to be honest, because in wrestling, you know, we only have that wooden mat that we fall on. And I’ve been hit with chairs and glass tubes, but while filming with a stunt coordinator and a safety team, I had a crash pad to fall back on, and everyone stood back in certain scenes while I did like. So it was very safe. And it was nice for a change to feel like someone actually cared about my safety.
Fabianne, your character is just going through a brutal time because she’s being treated as an infant and like a child, but she’s also being thrown around. There’s a scene where you’re getting smacked that is just very uncomfortable, but you’re also doing stuff like the breastfeeding scene, which is just as equally as nasty. What was more challenging? Was it the stunts, or was it just the gross acts that you had to do — the more like psychological ones?
Fabianne Therese: I think you know, to be honest, probably like the stuff that had more humiliation involved in it. That was just like, psychologically more difficult to get into, and were the ones that involved bigger conversations about, like, how they would be shot and what they would show.
There’s not like, which I really love, sexual gratuity in this film. It is about a psychological matter that is really important to the director to explore. But the stunts, the physical stuff that’s more fun, and the way that movie magic works is it’s also so far removed from how horrible it was. Like, I think in the spanking scene that you’re talking about, we were like, “No, she can spank me. Like Dolly can do that.” They were like, “Absolutely not.” Like, “this is how it’s like you’re going to be standing so far back.” Then, Max, they had to be like, “No, no, no, safety first.” I was wearing a padding like this big on my bottom. You know? It was fine.
Max, this film obviously takes inspiration from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. I was curious what some of your favorite horror movies are.
Max the Impaler: My favorite horror movies are the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. I saw them when I was far too young to see those kind of movies. I’m really inspired by Robert Englund. I think he’s an amazing actor, not just in the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, but Wishmaster and other movies that he’s been in.
Fabianne, I was curious what your relationship was to dolls. Did you own dolls growing up? I always find them creepy, but I’m also a guy, so I don’t know. What was your relationship? Because the imagery of dolls is so creepy throughout this film.
Fabianne Therese: No, I mean, I remember being horrified by dolls, and I weirdly did have a couple in my bedroom, and I would turn their faces away all the time because they gave me the heebie jeebies. I saw Chucky against my will when I was, like, five years old, and had truly like a relationship with him for, like, the next ten years. I was so afraid that Chucky was under everything at all times. And like, to this day, people sometimes prank me with having Chucky doll in the room because they know it just makes me so squeamish and upset. So dolls get… I don’t like them like people. At the end of our shoot, some people were taking little props home and they’re like, do you want your doll? And I was like, I don’t want that in my house.
Max the Impaler: I have a couple of dolls in my house, like right in my front door.
Fabianne Therese: No, no, no, no.
Max, are you looking to continue doing more acting going forward now that you’ve had this experience making Dolly or how are you going to like how are you going to manage your interests? Because obviously, you’re a very great pro wrestler as well.
Max the Impaler: Thank you. Well, I think there’s more to do with Dolly still, so I’m certainly focused on Dolly, but, I mean, it would be great. I was in a Troma movie called Slaughter at Camp Swinelake that’s in post right now. So it would be great to transition from wrestling to acting. It’s much easier on my body. It was always a dream of mine to be a monster in a horror movie. I just thought wrestling was the best I could do. So I created a monster in wrestling. But I would absolutely love to be the next, like Robert Englund.
So you feel like there’s more Dolly to be told? With the ending, we definitely could see more Dolly stories. So you’re interested in doing more?
Max the Impaler: Definitely. There’s way more to Macy’s story, and to Dolly’s story. There’s so much left untold about Dolly’s history and how Dolly came to be.
Thanks to Max the Impaler and Fabianne Therese for talking about Dolly.
