Disney’s latest animated sequel has officially claimed the top spot as the highest grossing U.S. animated movie ever. The studio’s newest hit crossed a major box office milestone, surpassing previous records and redefining the animated film landscape.
Zootopia 2 beats Inside Out 2 at global box office
Zootopia 2 has surpassed Inside Out 2 at the global box office to become the highest grossing MPA animated movie of all time. The film reached a total of $1.703 billion worldwide, overtaking Inside Out 2’s $1.69 billion. It also exceeded the lifetime grosses of The Lion King (2019) with $1.663 billion and Jurassic World with $1.672 billion (via Deadline).
Zootopia 2 achieved this milestone in its eighth weekend, with a domestic gross of $393 million and an international gross of $1.3 billion. Its worldwide debut over the Thanksgiving weekend earned $559.5 million in five days, setting records as the highest global animated opening of all time and the highest animated debut in Disney history. Zootopia 2 became the fastest PG-rated MPA animated title to reach $1 billion globally.
The film grossed $618.9 million in China, making it the highest MPA animated release of all time in that market. Other strong markets include Japan at $83 million and France at $71.7 million. Zootopia 2 is also the top Walt Disney Animation Studios release in 26 markets including China, France, and Mexico.
Zootopia 2 is the No. 1 global and international MPA release of 2025. It has contributed to a combined franchise total of $2.7 billion. Walt Disney Studios now holds the top three MPA animated titles globally: Zootopia 2, Inside Out 2, and Frozen 2.
According to Box Office Mojo, Zootopia 2’s domestic total stands at $393.2 million, representing 23 percent of its total gross, while 77 percent comes from international markets. China’s Ne Zha 2 remains the highest grossing animated movie globally with $2.2 billion.
