Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 has added an HBO star to play a notorious serial killer.

Which HBO star will play Dexter: Resurrection Season 2’s newest serial killer?

Brian Cox has joined the cast of Dexter: Resurrection in a series regular role. In Season 2, Cox will play The New York Ripper, a serial killer who terrorized the city. “Though no longer active as a killer, he’s found a new way to live into his infamy by continuing to taunt the survivors of his long-ago murder spree,” the press release reads.

In the Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 finale, Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) found a file on the New York Ripper in the vault of the villainous Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage).

Cox is a highly decorated actor, having won an Emmy, an Olivier, and a Golden Globe. Cox became known for playing Logan Roy on Succession, the critically acclaimed HBO drama about a media mogul’s battle against his children for control of the company’s future.

Dexter: Resurrection is the sequel series to Dexter and Dexter: New Blood. Hall reprises his role as Dexter Morgan, the forensic analyst who moonlights as a vigilante serial killer who targets other murderers. In Dexter: Resurrection, Dexter awakens from a coma after his son, Harrison (Jack Alcott), shot him. Dexter heads to New York City to make things right with his son. While in the city, his past starts to catch up with him.

Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 also starred Uma Thurman, David Zayas, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, Emilia Suárez, and James Remar.

Dexter: Resurrection was developed by Clyde Phillips, who also serves as the showrunner. Executive producers include Phillips, Hall, Scott Reynolds, Marcos Siega, Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Veronica West, Kirsa Rein, Tanner Bean, and Katrina Mathewson.

Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 premiered in July 2025 on Paramount+ with Showtime. Season 2 does not have a release date.
