Deadpool and the X-Men may be getting ready to team up, as THR is reporting that Ryan Reynolds is exploring the idea of a Deadpool and an X-Men movie inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
What do we know about the Deadpool & X-Men movie?
THR’s report notes that, while Reynolds was adamant he wouldn’t be doing a solo Deadpool movie following 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, that doesn’t mean he’s against coming back as Deadpool. THR goes on to mention that he’s been “exploring ideas” for what a new movie featuring Deadpool could look like, all of which also involve the iconic mutant group.
The movie, according to THR, would feature “three or four” X-Men characters. Deadpool would appear, but would be more of a “supporting player” than an actual main character. This would allow the X-Men characters to shine, and still allow the fan-favorite Deadpool to appear and be up to his normal chaotic antics.
This movie is also said to be separate from that of an official X-Men movie, which is being written by Michael Lesslie and is set to properly introduce the group into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. No word on what characters would be involved in the movie has been said as of yet, with the project still being described as being in the “extremely early days and far from becoming a reality.” THR also notes that Reynolds is working separate from Marvel Studios on this, meaning this project could still be a long way from coming together.
Reynolds’ fondness of the X-Men isn’t too surprising. Not only did Deadpool & Wolverine feature a number of X-Men characters like Sabertooth (Tyler Mane), Pyro (Aaron Stanford), Gambit (Channing Tatum), and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), but so have past Deadpool projects. In Deadpool 2, Colossus (Stefan Kapičić) appeared, as did Cable (Josh Brolin), Domino (Zazie Beetz), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), and more.
The X-Men as a group are also beginning to appear more and more in the MCU. In the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, several characters from the original X-Men film trilogy will appear, including Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Magneto (Ian McKellen), Cyclops (James Marsden), Nightcrawler (Alan Cuming), Beast (Kelsey Grammer), and Mystique (Rebecca Romijn).
