The director behind two Shazam movies and The Conjuring Universe’s Annabelle: Creation is working on a new horror project for Paramount Pictures.
Swedish filmmaker David F. Sandberg is attached to direct A Little Slice of Hell, which is currently in development at Paramount Pictures. Writing duo Greg Weidman and Geoff Tock are writing the script for the movie, based on John Goodrich’s short story of the same name. The short story was published in Assemble Artifacts’ first issue.
What is A Little Slice of Hell about?
Other details about the project remain under wraps, but Deadline reported that the movie will revolve around “two underpaid supermarket employees who realize that they should have read the employee manual after encountering a customer from Hell — literally.”
Maximum Effort’s Johnny Pariseau, Patrick Gooing, and Molly Milstein are set to produce A Little Slice of Hell, alongside Jack Heller, Lotta Losten, and Assemble’s Caitlin de Lisser-Ellen.
Sandberg rose to prominence for writing and directing a series of no-budget short horror films, uploading them online under the pseudonym “ponysmasher.” Some of his short films include Call of the Ocean, Not So Fast, Closet Space, See You Soon, and Cam Closer, with Lights Out being the most popular. Lights Out went on to receive a full-length adaptation in 2016, which Sandberg also directed. The project marked Sandberg’s feature-length directorial debut.
Sandberg then went on to direct other features, including 2017’s Annabelle: Creation, as well as 2019’s Shazam! and its 2023 sequel, Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Sandberg’s most recent project was Until Dawn, a survival horror movie based on the 2015 video game of the same name by PlayStation Studios. The film stars Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Odessa A’zion, Ji-young Yoo, and more.
Other details about A Little Slice of Hell, including the cast, have yet to be announced.
