Dave Bautista praises Jake Gyllenhaal, talks how Road House 2 is different
Dave Bautista says he is getting “quite an education” from Jake Gyllenhaal while filming Road House 2. He confirmed in a ScreenRant interview that Gyllenhaal’s experience with the business side of filmmaking has helped him prepare for the sequel. Bautista added that they have been “fleshing out a lot of backstory stuff” and focusing on the relationships that will shape the film, other than the action that people are expecting.
Gyllenhaal will reprise his role as Dalton, an ex-UFC fighter-turned-bar-bouncer. Bautista was cast in the sequel in a key role, the details of which have been kept under wraps.
Speaking about their early meetings, he recalled seeing Gyllenhaal on Broadway in Othello and visiting him backstage, saying he “loved him immediately.” Bautista noted that both actors agreed they wanted to “give this film as much heart as we can” while maintaining the expected action.
He said the film includes “lots of brawling and fighting” and emphasized that the “action is gonna be great.” Bautista highlighted Gyllenhaal’s professionalism, stating, “He knows his business. He knows how the machine works. He knows dialogue, he knows scripts, and he’s got a lot of insight.” Bautista added, “I measure my career by who I’m working with, and Jake is at the top of the totem pole.”
Road House 2 is being helmed by Ilya Naishuller and written by Will Beall. The production is expected to be larger in scale than the first film, with shoots planned in the U.K., Malta, and Savannah, Georgia.
The plot remains undisclosed. According to Bautista’s interview, both actors are working closely, suggesting their characters’ dynamic will be central to the sequel’s development.
