With Crime 101 releasing this weekend, there are a few things audiences might want to know about the Chris Hemsworth crime thriller movie before walking into the theater.
Crime 101 is a new crime thriller movie written and directed by Bart Layton. Based on the 2020 novella of the same name by Don Winslow, the all-star cast of the movie includes Hemsworth as Mike Davis, Mark Ruffalo as Lou Lubesnick, Barry Keoghan as Ormon, Halley Berry as Sharon Coombs, Monica Barbaro as Maya, Corey Hawkins as Detective. Tillman, Jennifer Jason Leigh as Angie, Nick Nolte as Money, and more.
The synopsis for the movie reads, “Set against the sun-bleached grit of Los Angeles, Crime 101 weaves the tale of an elusive jewel thief (Chris Hemsworth) whose string of heists along the 101 freeway have mystified police. When he eyes the score of a lifetime, his path crosses that of a disillusioned insurance broker (Halle Berry) who is facing her own crossroads. Convinced he has found a pattern, a relentless detective (Mark Ruffalo) is closing in, raising the stakes even higher. As the heist approaches, the line between hunter and hunted begins to blur, and all three are faced with life-defining choices–and the realization that there can be no turning back.”
What should people know about Crime 101?
While some audiences might be walking into the theater expecting Crime 101 to be an intense, fast-paced action movie, critics are saying that it’s slower and more character-driven than some might be expecting it to be.
Critics are also mixed on how well this decision ultimately pays off. While the movie currently has a 90 percent Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, ComingSoon’s Jonathan Sim writes that the slow build and narrative diversions ultimately result in a lack of tension that the film can never quite recover from. Sim ultimately gave the movie a 5/10 score, which equates to “mediocre,” and notes that there’s something admirable about its “ambition and its commitment to an old-school tone.”
Thursday night screenings for Crime 101, which is being released through Amazon MGM Studios, begin today.
