One of the most iconic 1980s movies, written by the legendary John Hughes, is coming back to theaters this year for its 40th anniversary.

What John Hughes movie is coming back to theaters for its 40th anniversary?

The 1986 teen rom-com Pretty in Pink is officially coming back to theaters. The movie will be showing in theaters in partnership between Paramount Pictures and Fathom Entertainment. The movie will screen from February 13-16, 2026, from an all-new remastered 4k film transfer supervised by director Howard Deutch.

Tickets for Pretty in Pink’s return to theaters are available now on Fathom’s website. The new release of the film also includes a “filmmaker focus” bonus featurette from director Howard Deutch. Deutch directed the original film from a screenplay written by the legendary Hughes, who also wrote high-profile films like National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Home Alone, and directed other high-profile films like Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Uncle Buck, and more.

“Andie is a high school girl from the other side of town. Blane’s the wealthy heartthrob who asks her to prom. But as fast as their romance builds, it’s threatened by the painful reality of peer pressure,” reads the film’s official synopsis.

Pretty in Pink features a star-studded cast, led by Molly Ringwald as Andie Walsh. The film also stars Harry Dean Stanton, Jon Cryer, Annie Potts, James Spader, Andrew McCarthy, and more. Upon its release, the film was a massive hit, and has gone on to become one of the most beloved rom-coms ever.
