Chris Hemsworth is heading underwater, as he’s set to star in the upcoming submarine action movie Subversion, according to a new report from Deadline.

What do we know about Subversion?

According to Deadline’s report, Subversion will follow the story of a once-promising Naval commander (Hemsworth), who is blackmailed by a “cartel-like operation into piloting a dangerous submarine carrying illegal cargo across international waters, thrusting him into a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, outmaneuvering blockades, and navigating perilous threats both in and outside of the submarine.”

The movie will be directed by Patrick Vollrath (7500) for Amazon MGM Studios, with a script coming from Andrew Ferguson. The movie will see Hemsworth’s working relationship with Amazon grow stronger. Hemsworth is also starring in the studios’ upcoming film Crime 101. Other cast members for Subversion remain unknown as of now, with no other information available yet.

Hemsworth is coming off of a busy 2024, in which he starred in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, as well as the hit film Transformers One. Up next for the actor is a role in the action movie Stunnuts: The Movie, as well as his reprisal of Thor in the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday.

Vollrath is best known for his 2015 short film Everything Will Be Okay, which he followed up with 2019’s 7500, which starred Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a pilot who’s plane is hijacked, which marked the last film for the German director prior to Subversion.
