Chris Hemsworth is replacing Channing Tatum in a new crime movie.
Tatum was originally supposed to star in Kockroach, a forthcoming movie that’s described as being in the same vein as Goodfellas and Scarface. Due to scheduling conflicts, Tatum has had to drop out of the film, and Hemsworth is now replacing him.
What else do we know about the Chris Hemsworth crime movie?
Per Deadline, the synopsis for the movie reads, “Kockroach is the story of a mysterious stranger who takes on New York’s criminal underworld, transforming himself into a larger-than-life crime boss in a city where power is everything.”
The movie is an adaptation of a novel by William Lasher. Matt Ross is directing the movie, with the screenplay coming from Jonathan Ames, with revisions by Ross.
Ross previously directed 2012’s 28 Hotel Rooms and 2016’s Captain Fantastic. He’s also starred in movies such as 1995’s 12 Monkeys, 1997’s Face/Off, 2000’s American Psycho, 2004’s The Aviator, 2006’s Last Holiday, and more.
In addition to Hemsworth, the movie stars Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Rocketman) and Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2, Bullet Train). Christina Weiss Lurie and Andrew Lazar both produce the movie.
Production on Kockroach is expected to begin this April. A release date has not yet been set.
Hemsworth and Tatum will both be reprising their MCU roles as Thor and Gambit in Avengers: Doomsday, which is currently in post-production and scheduled to be released this December. Whether or not they’ll also both be returning for Avengers: Secret Wars remains to be seen, though Hemsworth did recently hint that Thor will be in the movie. Hemsworth is also starring alongside Mark Ruffalo and Halle Berry in Crime 101. That movie, releasing next week by Amazon MGM Studios, is also a crime thriller, with this one being based on a 2020 novella by Don Winslow.
