Mia Goth has provided an update on the delayed Blade MCU movie.
Marvel Studios originally announced that a Blade movie was in development at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2019. Mahershala Ali is attached to star as the titular character, while the cast also includes Goth; however, the project has had a hard time getting off the ground as the script has gone through a number of different iterations since it was originally announced.
What did Mia Goth say about Blade?
Speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Goth was asked about Blade and her perspective on all the different delays the project has suffered.
“I don’t know what’s going on with that,” she said. “I think that they want to make it. And it’s such an important film for them that they’re taking their time with it. I really don’t have any information. I don’t know why it’s taken the time that it has. But, you know, we will see. We will see.”
Goth was also asked about one iteration of the Blade script that was reportedly set in the 1920s and would have seen the Pearl star play a villainous character named Lilith.
“The furthest that it got with me was that — I auditioned for that too, actually,” Goth said. “I auditioned for that. And they flew to Atlanta, and we did a chemistry test between Mahershala and I. We did a costume fitting and a wig fitting. I was very excited about the direction it was going. It was very cool. Mahershala had such an interesting take on it. He was great. And then it just unraveled from there, unfortunately.”
At this time, the new Blade movie does not have a release date from Marvel. No director is attached to the project. Two other versions of Blade — Wesley Snipes in Deadpool & Wolverine and Todd Williams as Blade Knight in Marvel Zombies — have since appeared in the MCU since the movie was originally announced.
