A fan-favorite 1993 sports comedy, The Sandlot, will be leaving Netflix’s streaming library later next month. It is a lighthearted coming-of-age story that follows a group of young boys who bond over baseball after a new boy moves into the San Fernando Valley during the summer of 1992.
The Sandlot leaves Netflix in March
The iconic coming-of-age sports comedy from the 90s is scheduled to exit the streaming service’s content catalog soon.
As per What’s on Netflix, The Sandlot will be leaving Netflix on March 13, 2026.
The film begins with a young boy named Scott Smalls moving into a new town and struggling to make friends. After an embarrassing baseball incident, the group’s leader invites him and offers to help him improve at the sport. Beyond the sport, they also fear a dog that they call “The Beast,” which has claimed several of their baseballs.
Over the summer, the boys play pranks on people around them. For one of their baseball matches, Scott takes his stepfather’s signed baseball. To his dismay, the ball ends up in The Beast’s yard. Scott’s friend, Benny, goes into The Beast’s yard to retrieve the ball. But things don’t go his way.
David Mickey Evans helmed the movie with a script he co-wrote with Robert Gunte. He also lent his voice as the narrator/adult Scott Smalls. The cast includes Tom Guiry, Mike Vitar, Patrick Renna, Chauncey Leopardi, and Brandon Adams, among others.
The Sandlot received mixed-to-positive reception at its release, and earned over $34 million at the box office, making it a commercial success (via Box Office Mojo). Additionally, it has gained a massive following since its release on DVD and VHS. Per USA Today, the film reportedly sold over 7 million copies.
The film also enjoys a favorable rating on Rotten Tomatoes with 89% Popcornmeter score from over 250,000 users. Additionally, The Sandlot has a 66% score on the Tomatometer. All of the commercial success led to two sequels in 2005 and 2007, respectively. According to TV Line, a television series aimed at reuniting the original cast was canceled in 2023.
