The budget for James Cameron‘s sci-fi epic, Avatar: Fire and Ash, has finally been revealed ahead of its highly anticipated theatrical debut on December 19, 2025. The upcoming movie was filmed simultaneously alongside Avatar: The Way of Water, which officially wrapped in December 2020.
What is Avatar: Fire and Ash’s budget?
According to Variety, 20th Century Studios has reportedly given Avatar: Fire and Ash a budget of more than $400 million. This is similar to the 2022 sequel’s previously reported budget of around $350–460 million, which remains Cameron’s most expensive movie to date.
Avatar: Fire and Ash is once again directed and produced by Cameron, who co-wrote the screenplay with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. The ensemble cast includes Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Oona Chaplin, Giovanni Ribisi, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Jack Champion, Bailey Bass, Edie Falco, and more. Just like the 2022 movie, the third installment will also last more than three hours. The creative team consists of cinematographer Russell Carpenter, set decorator Vanessa Cole, costume designer Deborah L. Scott, production designer Dylan Cole, and composer Simon Franglen.
“In the wake of the devastating war against the RDA and the loss of their eldest son, Jake Sully and Neytiri face a new threat on Pandora: the Ash People, a violent and power-hungry Na’vi tribe led by the ruthless Varang,” reads the synopsis (via Letterboxd). “Jake’s family must fight for their survival and the future of Pandora in a conflict that pushes them to their emotional and physical limits.”
