The Golden Globe nominee has officially confirmed his return as Lee Shaw in the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
In a new behind-the-scenes video released by Apple TV, Kurt Russell is seen smiling on set and saying, “You ain’t getting rid of me that easy,” directly addressing speculation about his character’s fate. The video, titled “The mission isn’t over. Everything changes tomorrow,” ends with the sound of a roar.
The confirmation comes after Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 1 left Shaw’s story on an uncertain note. In the finale, the older version of Lee Shaw sacrifices himself to fix a malfunctioning portal. However, he ultimately falls into the Hollow Earth. The cliffhanger led many fans to question whether Russell would return for the second season.
Production on Season 2 wrapped earlier this year, with Apple TV confirming in March that filming had concluded. Similar to its previous installment, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 will consist of ten episodes.
Alongside Russell, returning cast members include Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Joe Tippett, and Anders Holm. As of now, the plot details remain unknown.
Created by Chris Black and Matt Fraction, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters follows two siblings who set out to find their family’s connection to Monarch, a secret organization that studies the giant creatures roaming the Earth. The series premiered to generally positive reviews, as it expands on the MonsterVerse.
With Kurt Russell’s return now confirmed, anticipation for Season 2 continues to build as fans await further details from Apple TV.
