The Waller DCU TV show has received a troubling update.
In 2023, it was announced that a Waller TV show was in the works at DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television. Viola Davis is supposed to reprise her role as Amanda Waller in the series after she previously played the character in 2016’s Suicide Squad, 2021’s The Suicide Squad, 2022’s Black Adam, and Peacemaker.
Waller was originally supposed to come out before 2025’s Superman, though that didn’t end up happening. This is partially due to the 2023 strikes, though James Gunn has said it’s been a “bumpy road” to perfect the scripts.
What is the update on the Waller DCU TV show?
Speaking with Variety, HBO Max boss Casey Bloys was asked for an update on the show and if it might be going into production sometime soon.
Bloys answered, “Put it this way, I wouldn’t say it’s on the runway. But Lanterns is coming up this summer.”
Bloys didn’t say anything else about Waller; however, based on his comment, it sounds like the TV show is still a long way from happening. The series does not have a release date at this time.
Gunn said of Waller when it was first announced, “This is a story of Amanda Waller, played by Viola Davis. Viola Davis is going to team up with members of Team Peacemaker. This is a story that’s been created by Christal Henry, who did Watchmen, and Jeremy Carver, who created the Doom Patrol. It is a fantastic story that’s out of the world, and I can’t wait for people to see it.”
Gunn then told People in August 2025, “We’re working on it, so we’ll see what happens. Some things have moved faster than others. Waller’s not been the fastest. But I can’t wait to see Viola put on their Waller pants again.”
