A new animated show revolving around legendary soccer player Diego Maradona is reportedly in the works at Reliance Animation. Maradona played for Argentina as an attacking midfielder and is one of the sport’s biggest names. At the time of writing, the release date window for the animated series has not been announced.
Reliance Animation to develop a Diego Maradona animated series
India-based animation company Reliance Animation has announced a new animated show based on the life of Diego Maradona, according to a report from Variety.
Reliance is reportedly collaborating with Argentina’s SATTVICA SA, which holds the rights to Maradona’s IP. The series will focus on Maradona’s early life and international stardom. Currently, the animation studio has not revealed the platform on which the series will make its debut.
Apart from his sporting career, the animated project is expected to highlight Maradona’s personal struggles and cultural influence both on and off the field. Reliance Entertainment CEO Shibasish Sarkar gave a statement regarding the project and said, “We are thrilled to bring the extraordinary story of Diego Maradona to a new generation through animation. His journey of resilience, passion, and achievement transcends sports, and we believe it will inspire audiences worldwide.”
Additionally, SATTVICA SA’s representative, Rita Maradona said, “We, Diego’s sisters, are very happy and proud of this new project with such a prestigious company as Reliance, with which we will seek to reach the children’s audience and for all the children of the world to know our brother.” Furthermore, Reliance Animation CEO Tejonidhi Bhandare commented on the project. He conveyed that the company wants to showcase “the spirit, struggles, and triumphs of Maradona’s life” so that the project resonates with all age groups.
Bridge Marketing Group Inc. CEO Samuel Nieto shared that the series will aim to help young athletes learn about the legacy of Maradona.
