Black Bear and Hope Studios announced Academy Award-winning actress Angelina Jolie is officially set to star in the upcoming movie adaptation of Anxious People, based on the bestselling novel.
Who is directing Anxious People?
Anxious People will be directed by Marc Forster, who recently was behind the camera behind for 2022’s Tom Hanks film A Man Called Otto, and also directed the blockbuster World War Z. The film is based on the #1 New York Times bestselling novel by Fredrik Backman, and follows the story of an investment banker (Jolie) who is at an open house when a bank robber takes the entire home hostage.
Alongside Forster, Anxious People will be written by Academy Award-nominated screenwriter David Magee, who previously wrote A Man Called Otto, which Forster worked on. No casting information besides Jolie has been announced yet, nor has any release information been made available.
Anxious People will be produced by Hope Studios’ Fredrik Wikström Nicastro and Renée Wolfe (A Man Called Otto, Christopher Robin), with Forster, Magee, and Neda Backman all serving as executive producers. Black Bear is set to negotiate for distribution rights at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.
“The day before Christmas Eve, investment banker Zara (Jolie) begrudgingly finds herself mingling with a group of strangers at an open house,” reads the film’s official synopsis. “When a reluctant bank robber inadvertently takes the group hostage, chaos and oversharing ensues, secrets are revealed and literally nothing goes according to plan. A poignant, charming film about a crime that never took place, a would-be bank robber who disappears into thin air, and eight extremely anxious strangers who find they have more in common than they ever imagined.”
