A highly-rated comedy series is leaving Netflix next month. The quirky sitcom Arrested Development, which has garnered a massive cult following since its debut, has been on the platform for over a decade. However, with licensing changes, the Emmy-winning series will be removed from Netflix’s content library soon.

Arrested Development is leaving Netflix in March

Arrested Development is departing from Netflix on Sunday, March 15th, 2026.

It originally aired on Fox from November 2003 to February 2006, running for three seasons and totaling 53 episodes. However, the showrunner, Mitchell Hurwitz, reportedly chose not to continue the series due to financial and creative concerns.

During an interview with Variety in 2006, he said, “The fans have been so ardent in their devotion and in return… I’ve given everything I can to the show in order to try to live up to their expectations. I finally reached a point where I felt I couldn’t continue to deliver that on a weekly basis.”

Ultimately, Fox canceled the series. However, in 2012, Netflix co-produced a fourth season comprising 15 episodes. All 15 episodes aired exclusively on the site on May 26, 2013.

Five years later, in 2018, Netflix released a fifth, though in two parts. The first part, with eight episodes, aired in May 2018, and the second part, with another eight episodes, aired nearly a year later in March 2019. Since then, the show has continued to stream on Netflix.

For a brief period in 2023, the show was reported to leave the site. However, Netflix and Disney, which had acquired 20th Century Fox Television by that time, agreed to extend the streaming license. Since those three years are up, the series is finally leaving Netflix in March.

The show starred Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, Alia Shawkat, Tony Hale, David Cross, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Walter, and Ron Howard.

Subscribers have until March 15 to watch the 84-episode series.
