All General Hospital fans have a similar reaction to the rumors about Maurice Benard, who plays Sonny Corinthos, leaving the show. With recent developments surrounding Sonny’s storyline, the fate of the character seems to be hanging in the balance. So, fans have taken to social media to discuss the topic and express how they feel about it.

General Hospital fans react to rumors of Maurice Benard’s Sonny leaving
Despite being a mob boss, Sonny Corinthos has been one of the staple characters on General Hospital and a fan-favorite for decades. Recently, rumors about the character leaving the soap opera have surfaced online, and fans have a very definitive opinion about the potential exit.
For context, during the January 26 episode, Marco summoned Callum to Wyndemere to ask him to take Sonny “out of the equation.” Marco explained that his father, Sidwell, is underestimating Sonny’s capabilities by sparing his life, and suspected that he might be planning retaliation, which poses a problem to their secret project.
Since the show has portrayed Callum as a dangerous man, it is possible that he can kill Sonny, or at least hurt him badly. Whether he is successful in achieving that has yet to be seen.
Now, one fan took to the show’s Facebook page to discuss the matter. The user posted a photo of Sonny with the text, “Do you want Sonny to stay on GH?” However, the user captioned it, “I vote ‘No’! Sidwell runs Port Charles now! How would you vote?”
The post has caught the attention of thousands of GH fans, who have since responded to the post. One user wrote, “There is no GH without Sonny?” A second user concurred, saying, “Yes. There’s no GH without Sonny. We’ve lost so many originals already. I’ve been watching from the beginning.” A third user replied, “Sonny all the time. I love Sonny. Get rid of Sidwell and that WSB guy.”
The post has over two thousand comments at the time of writing, and the majority are in agreement that Sonny should stay on General Hospital. One user simply said, “Yes, he is General Hospital.”
Sonny has managed to survive all of his enemies during the course of his time in Port Charles. But how long can his skill or luck keep him alive? Keep watching General Hospital to find out.
