All five seasons of an FX crime drama are scheduled to leave Netflix’s content library next month. It’s a gripping rags-to-riches story of a young woman from Mexico who flees to the United States and builds a highly successful drug empire.
Queen of the South is leaving Netflix very soon
Queen of the South Seasons 1-5 will leave Netflix on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. The story is an adaptation of Arturo Pérez-Reverte’s 2002 Spanish novel of the same name, which was previously adapted into a Spanish telenovela, La Reina del Sur, in 2011.
The show begins in Culiacán, where Teresa is dating a member of a drug cartel. Following his murder, she is forced to cross the border to the United States. There, she joins forces with a powerful drug distributor, Doña Camila Vargas. After working as a low-level mule, Teresa quickly rises through the ranks and eventually builds her own empire.
Queen of the South’s cast features Alice Braga as Teresa, Peter Gadiot as James, Veronica Falcón as Doña, Hemky Madera as Pote, Joaquim de Almeida as Don Epifanio Vargas, and Justina Machado as Brenda Parra, among others, in prominent roles.
M.A. Fortin and Joshua John Miller developed the show for USA Network. It premiered in June 2016 and ran for five seasons, totaling 62 episodes. The finale, titled “El Final,” aired on June 9, 2021. The final season would’ve aired much earlier. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the filming was reportedly halted indefinitely, per Deadline.
The show was received well by the audience each year. On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently has an average user rating of 81% across all five seasons. Meanwhile, it has a favorable score of 7.2 based on 84 users on Metacritic. It also holds an 8.0 rating on IMDb.
Netflix subscribers have a limited time to revisit Queen of the South on the platform before it exits next month.
