Jim Belushi, the longtime star of According to Jim and countless films, is opening up about his career bounce-back and his bond with his late brother, John Belushi. In a recent interview, he shared that he often dreams about John, revisiting old memories and finding little moments of comfort.
Jim Belushi remembers older brother John Belushi
The K-9 star opened up about his late brother, John Belushi, the legendary comedian who died at 33, sharing how his humor and brilliance still resonate with him. Jim recalled having dreams where they’re performing together at Second City, with John being so funny that Jim would accidentally steal the scene and break character. Despite getting frustrated, he remembered John’s response—“Ah, come on, kid!” and said that, even now, he “still gets little visits,” Jim said in an interview with Variety.
Jim Belushi is proving his acting chops in Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut, The Chronology of Water, where he takes on the role of Ken Kesey. The part pushed him to explore grief and vulnerability, a territory he knows well from his own life. On top of The Chronology of Water, Belushi is also appearing in Craig Brewer’s Song Sung Blue, playing a warmhearted small-time manager.
The actor said he’s always chased “the magic” on stage and on camera. “I don’t know if they’re boxing me in as much as they just don’t understand me because I am kind of all over the place,” he shared. “I’ve done some independent films where people went, ‘Oh my God, I didn’t realize you could do that.’”
Beyond the screen, Belushi has taken on a more personal role of helping others navigate loss. He shared that fans often reach out to him, seeking guidance after losing loved ones. He explained that hearing their struggles made him realize part of his purpose is to offer support and help guide others through what he went through.
“They want to know what to do,” the comedian said. “And I went, OK, I see. I see now. Some of my purpose is to help guide others.”
