In the wake of the release of the Game of Thrones spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, series co-creator Ira Parker has revealed his plans for the show. Parker, who has also executive-produced House of the Dragon, declared in a recent interview that if it were up to him, he would sanction 12 seasons of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and produce them over a three-decade period.

Ira Parker wants A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms to cover entirety of Dunk and Egg’s lives

During a recent conversation, the renowned screenwriter and producer revealed that George R.R. Martin has “outlined” the ideas for 12 novellas about Dunk and Egg for him. As such, he would want to adapt every one of Dunk and Egg’s adventures for the small screen.

“We have one of the ingredients: Two unusual characters — like Arya and the Hound, or Brienne and Podrick — who are paired together and having conversations. I hope that’s what [made Thrones work]. It’s a big part of what it was for me. So I hope we get to make as many of these as possible,” Ira Parker remarked while talking about the future of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms with The Hollywood Reporter.

“I would say HBO’s plan is for us to do the three novellas, and that’s it. But I would do 12 of these. I would do four now, then four more 10 years from now, and then four more 10 years after that — take them all the way through their lives and just like [Richard Linklater’s Boyhood],” Parker continued.

The Game of Thrones spin-off takes place roughly 89 years before the events of the main series. It centers around the misadventures of Ser Duncan the Tall, a lowborn hedge knight, and Prince Aegon ‘Egg’ Targaryen. So far, George R.R. Martin has penned three novellas detailing the escapades of the duo. He also has plans to publish several more in the near future.

Despite having a lack of published source material, Parker is confident about making A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms last 12 seasons. “Even though we don’t have the ins and outs of every story, we know canonically the major beats of Dunk and Egg throughout their lives. So we wouldn’t necessarily run into the same trouble as the flagship did. And George has outlined 12 more of these stories that he’s shared with me,” he added.

Ira Parker may be extremely enthusiastic about developing future A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms installments. However, HBO has yet to officially renew the series beyond Season 2.
