A high-octane, four-movie ensemble franchise, starring Jason Statham, is arriving on Netflix later this month. Created by Sylvester Stallone, The Expendables franchise also starred many other action stars from the ‘80s, ‘90s, and beyond.
Entire Expendables franchise gets Netflix release date
All four Expendables movies are making their way to Netflix on Friday, February 20, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix).
The franchise follows a group of mercenaries, led by Lee Christmas (Statham) and Barney Ross (Stallone), who take on dangerous missions around the world. Their journey begins when a man called Mr. Church hires them for $5 million to assassinate a dictator.
As the series continues, the story becomes more personal, raising the stakes with each installment.
Stallone has played a major role in the franchise. Along with creating it, he co-wrote the scripts for the first three movies and directed the first film. However, he stepped away from his central role during the development of the fourth film, citing creative differences (via Deadline). But after receiving support from his co-stars, the actor returned for the fourth and final installment. He had teased his return with an Instagram post in 2018.
Across its four films, the movie has featured several action stars, including Jet Li, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Steve Austin, Terry Crews, Mickey Rourke, Randy Couture, and Tony Jaa, among many others.
While the movies have a dedicated fan base, they received less-than-favorable reviews from critics on review aggregator sites like Rotten Tomatoes. The user ratings, on the other hand, are much higher. Cumulatively, the franchise has also earned $840 million at the box office.
The series has also spawned a comic, The Expendables Go to Hell, written by Chuck Dixon and Richard C. Meyer, with artwork by Graham Nolan. Furthermore, there were talks about a spin-off TV series and an all-female-centric version of the movie, The Expendabelles, though neither project has yet materialized.
