Prime Video has officially added an iconic Blake Lively coming-of-age movie to its library, along with its 2008 sequel. This comes two decades after the first installment had its theatrical debut, where it earned a gross of around $42 million at the box office.
What Blake Lively movies are now available on Prime Video?
As of today, Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants franchise will finally be available for streaming on Prime Video, giving subscribers a chance to rewatch Lively’s performance as the free-spirited and sporty Bridget. The movies were also led by Academy Award nominee America Ferrera (Barbie) as Carmen, Emmy winner Alexis Bledel (The Handmaid’s Tale) as Lena, and Golden Globe nominee Amber Tamblyn (Joan of Arcadia) as Tibby.
The first installment was directed by Ken Kwapis with Delia Ephron and Elizabeth Chandler writing the screenplay. It was based on Ann Brashares’ YA novel of the same name. The movie received positive reviews from critics. It currently holds a Certified Fresh rating of 82% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 150 reviews.
“The 2005 movie follows four best friends living in Maryland. After many summers together, the four are finally going their separate ways for a few months: while Bridget heads to Mexico, and Lena visits family in Greece, Carmen and Tibby stay closer to home. No matter where they are, they are connected by a pair of jeans that they take turns sharing — pants that fit all four girls and exemplify their tight bond,” reads the synopsis.
The 2008 sequel was directed by Sanaa Hamri from a screenplay once again written by Chandler. It was primarily based on the 2007 fourth installment in Brashares’ bestselling novel series Forever in Blue. However, the creative team decided to include some scenes and storylines from the second and third books. Unlike the 2005 movie, the sequel wasn’t able to replicate its predecessor’s critical success. At the moment, it has a Tomatometer rating of 66% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 96 reviews.
“Following freshman year at college, best friends Tibby, Lena, Carmen, and Bridget find it increasingly difficult to stay in touch,” reads the synopsis. “As their lives take different paths, it may take more than a shared pair of well-worn blue jeans to keep their bonds from completely unraveling.”
