ABC has announced that its long-running medical drama Grey’s Anatomy will be losing two of its veteran series regulars after its current season. This comes ahead of Season 22’s finale episode premiere on May 7, 2026.
Who is leaving Grey’s Anatomy?
Per Deadline, long-time cast members Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver are officially exiting their respective roles as Owen and Teddy in Grey’s Anatomy after Season 22. Their last episode as series regulars will be the upcoming season finale in May, which just wrapped up this week.
“Over the years, we have had the privilege of watching Owen and Teddy’s love story evolve and deepen- two characters who always seem to find their way back to each other. It is both bittersweet and joyful to give this couple the happy ending their story deserves,” creator Shonda Rhimes said in a statement.
She continued, “Kevin and Kim bring extraordinary talent, nuance, and heart to their roles as Owen and Teddy. Their contributions leave an indelible mark on Grey’s Anatomy, both in front of and behind the camera. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with them both and to see them shine. While we will all miss seeing them in the halls of Grey Sloan Memorial each day, I am excited to witness where Kim’s and Kevin’s journeys will take them in the future.”
Owen Hunt was first introduced in Season 5 as a former trauma surgeon for the U.S. Army. He became one of Seattle Grace’s surgical attendings and was Cristina Yang’s love interest. Meanwhile, Teddy Altman was later introduced as a cardiothoracic surgeon attending in Season 6. Like Owen, she also served in the military. Throughout the show, their characters’ storylines have been interconnected many times due to their shared history and romantic relationship. They were married from Season 18 until Season 22, and are now co-parenting two children.
“Grey’s Anatomy has been a huge chapter of my life, creatively and personally, and I’m deeply grateful for everything the show has given me over the years,” McKidd said.
Raver added, “Playing Dr. Teddy Altman will always hold a dear and special place in my heart.”
Grey’s Anatomy currently stars Chandra Wilson as Miranda Bailey and James Pickens Jr. as Richard Webber, who are the remaining actors left from the original main cast of the first series episode. Despite exiting her series regular role in Season 19, Ellen Pompeo still serves as the narrator. The series also stars Caterina Scorsone as Amelia Shepherd, Camilla Luddington as Jo Wilson, Chris Carmack as Link Lincoln, Anthony Hill as Winston, Jason George as Ben, Alexis Floyd as Simone, Harry Shum Jr. as Blue, Adelaide Kane as Jules, Niko Terho as Lucas, and more.
