Two epic sci-fi space opera movies featuring Dave Bautista and other high-profile Hollywood actors have been dominating streaming charts. Both, currently enjoying strong viewership on HBO Max, were significant box office successes at the time of their theatrical releases. They also garnered positive reception from both critics and audiences.
Dune and Dune: Part Two continue to trend high on HBO Max streaming
Dune and Dune: Part Two, featuring Dave Bautista in a key supporting role, are the #4 and #3 movies on HBO Max in the U.S., as of April 1, 2026, according to FlixPatrol. They are surpassed in viewership by two installments of the John Wick franchise, Ballerina and Chapter 4, which rank #1 and #2, respectively.
However, they outrank other films on the top 10 movies list: The 40-Year-Old Virgin (#5), Spider-Man (#6), The Amazing Spider-Man (#7), Fackham Hall (#8), Spider-Man 2 (#9), and Evan Almighty (#10).
Dune, which hit theaters in 2021, grossed $411 million at the global box office. Meanwhile, Part Two, which dropped three years later, surpassed this figure by making nearly $715 million.
Both movies boast solid scores on review aggregator websites. On Rotten Tomatoes, the first one holds a “certified fresh” critical score of 83% and a “verified hot” audience score of 90%. Meanwhile, the sequel displays superior critical and audience ratings of “certified fresh” 92% and “verified hot” 95%, respectively.
Elsewhere, on Metacritic, Part One holds a 74 Metascore and a 7.9 user score, while Part Two possesses a higher 79 and 8.4.
Both adapt Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel of the same name, being the second cinematic rendition after David Lynch’s 1984 feature. The first one’s narrative documents Paul Atreides’ arrival on Arrakis and his entrance into a deadly war for the planet. Meanwhile, the sequel picks up from where the previous left off and finds Atreides uniting with the Fremen in his war against House Harkonnen, who killed his father.
Denis Villeneuve, recognized for Sicario, Prisoners, and Blade Runner 2049, helmed both movies. He also co-wrote the screenplays with Jon Spaihts, with Eric Roth also contributing to the first. In addition to Bautista, both the movies feature Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, and Javier Bardem, among others.
