A woman has been charged with the domestic-violence-related murder of an 84-year-old grandmother in Sydney's north-west last month.

A woman has been charged with the domestic-violence-related murder of an 84-year-old grandmother in Sydney's north-west last month.

Strike Force Vado was formed to investigate after the Irene Selmes' body was found in her bed on Comet Street in Melonba, near Marsden Park, about 12.30pm on October 4. 

Officers established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into what they considered a suspicious death.

A post-mortem revealed Selmes, who was believed to have lived with her son, her son's partner, and his children, had suffered "significant injuries" before her death, police alleged.

About 3pm today, a 50-year-old woman who knew the 84-year-old was arrested on Comet Street.

She was taken to Mount Druitt police station, where she was charged tonight with domestic violence-related murder.

She was refused bail to face Mount Druitt Local Court tomorrow.
