Woman charged after escaping house fire in NSW

Emergency services were called to the blazing home in Mirrabooka, south of Newcastle, at 10.40pm.

A woman has been charged over a house fire in the New South Wales Lake Macquarie region overnight.

At about 10.40pm, emergency services were called to a burning house Mooranga Road, Mirrabooka, south of Newcastle.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze but the house was destroyed.

A 32-year-old woman, the sole occupant of the home, escaped unhurt.

She was arrested at the scene and charged with damaging property by fire.

She was refused bail and will appear in court today.
