A Victorian man has been charged after a federal MP received allegedly harassing emails and phone calls.
The AFP charged the 32-year-old Melbourne man with using a carriage service to harass a federal parliamentarian.
The AFP's newly established National Security Investigations (NSI) team began investigating the alleged harassment earlier this month after the MP's electoral office reported receiving abusive emails and an allegedly hateful and menacing phone call.

The man also allegedly defaced a flag at the MP's electoral office.
The AFP raised a home in Mernda today, where multiple electronic devices and offensive material were seized.
The man will face Melbourne Magistrates Court on November 27, charged with one count of using a carriage service to menace, harass or offend.
If found guilty, he could face up to five years in jail.
AFP Acting Assistant Commissioner Matthew Gale said NSI teams were set up in September to target groups and individuals causing harm to Australia's social cohesion, including targeting federal parliamentarians.
"The AFP supports freedom of speech and political expression, but any criminal behaviour, including threats and harassment, will not be tolerated," Gale said.
"Whether offending occurs online or in-person, the AFP will use its unique capabilities and legislation to collect intelligence and evidence, and prosecute those who seek to harm our community."
