Two states brace for floods as weekend downpour looms

Today's rain will likely prime the ground for upcoming flooding.

Parts of central Queensland down to the state's southeast and NSW are set to experience a weekend of heavy rain and thunderstorms that could result in flooding.

A low-pressure trough is set to move over Queensland's central and southeast regions from today until the end of the weekend, which is expected to cause widespread rain and thunderstorms over the next four days.

Weather data firm Weatherzone says that while Thursday's rain is not expected to bring flooding, the conditions will dampen the ground and prime the landscape for flooding over the weekend.
