Plane forced to land in Italy after flames erupt mid-air

Video on social media showed fire flaring near the plane engine as it flew.

A passenger plane has been forced to make an emergency landing in Italy after flames erupted mid-flight.

Condor Airlines said a "reaction" near the engine had caused flames to appear, but stopped short of describing it as an engine fire.

The plane landed in Brindisi after taking off from Corfu on Saturday night, local time.

None of the 273 passengers and eight crew on board were injured.

CBS News reported the plane was headed from Greece to Germany before the emergency landing.

Video on social media showed flames flashing on the plane's wing.

Passengers waited overnight for a replacement aircraft which carried them to Dusseldorf in Germany the next day.
