Man targeted by gunmen outside popular gym in Sydney shooting, police say

A large police presence is on the scene after shots were fired in Gregory Hills in the city's south-west.

Gunfire erupted outside a shopping centre in Sydney's south-west this morning in what police say appears to be a targeted attack towards a man outside a gym.

Police were called to the World Gym at the Home Centre on Steer Road, Gregory Hills, at about 8.35am.

Officers found a number of shots had been fired at a man outside the gym.

The intended target is believed to have left the scene immediately.

There have been no reports of injuries.

Police confirmed two males were seen in the car park, carrying guns and dressed in black clothing and face coverings.

Customers sheltered in place after the shooting was heard, with some witnesses calling in to 2GB.

One, Lucas, claimed to have seen two men with "balaclavas on their heads and handguns" open fire with "eight or nine shots".

Another, Jack, said he had been in the Service NSW outlet in the centre when "about 10" gunshots were fired in the car park.

He said all the people in the Service NSW centre were sheltering in a back room while waiting for the all-clear by police.

Aerial images showed police had cordoned off part of the car park.

They also appeared to be speaking to a number of witnesses in the area.

The car park was not fully closed off, with drivers continuing to move outside the cordon.
