A young father has died after a tragic shooting at a home in Melbourne's west this morning.
Emergency services were called to Second Avenue in Altona North about 3.30am where the 26-year-old's body was found in the backyard with a gunshot wound.
Paramedics tried to save the Werribee man, but he died at the scene.

Police spent the day scouring for CCTV and speaking to neighbours to try to piece together the young father's final movements.
