The hero hid behind a silver vehicle and crept towards the apparent gunman before leaping towards him and putting him in a headlock.
The unknown man wrestled with the gunman until he released the weapon.

The good Samaritan then turned the weapon on the gunman, holding it at him as the man stumbled backwards, holding up his hand as he scrambled away.
The heroic man did not fire the gun but signalled for assistance.

At least 12 people have been killed and a dozen more injured after the two gunmen opened fire on the popular beach, with vision from the scene showing them shooting from a footbridge at the southern end of Campbell Parade shortly before 7pm (AEDT).
Police have confirmed more than 20 people have been shot.
One of the shooters was killed and the other was critically injured and in police custody.
Police cautioned that the bridge the shooters used may have had explosives hidden on. People were warned to keep away as it was searched.
It's understood that young children are among the more than a dozen people injured.
"I saw children, I saw an elderly woman," 9News reporter Damien Ryan said from the scene.
