School zones will be enforced early in NSW ahead of students returning to class next week, motorists have been warned.
Drivers in the state will need to adhere to the 40km/h speed limits from tomorrow, January 27 – a week before students formally return from the Christmas and New Year break.
The first few days of a new term are usually reserved for staff only, however some students may start to return to school from tomorrow following a six-week break.

Term one will officially begin on February 2 in NSW.
School zones in NSW generally apply from 8 to 9.30am and from 2.30 to 4pm on weekdays.
Some schools have non-standard school zone times across NSW.
Drivers who are caught speeding above 40km/h in these zones face fines of up to $3242 and seven demerit points.
NSW Transport executive director Chadi Chalhou said the school zone speed limit will be enforced by police and speed cameras in the school zones.

He warned that children can often be "unpredictable" and urged motorists to drive carefully around schools.
"We want motorists to slow down and look out for school children to avoid any road incidents," Chalhou said.
"The message is simple: stick to the school zone speed limit, keep our kids safe, keep the demerits points off your license and keep the money in your pocket."
