Neighbours have raced to their front doors and watched in horror at mayhem in the suburban street.
CCTV has captured a shirtless man sprinting away from a Melbourne driveway after a police car was repeatedly rammed.
Officers were called to Mornington, 46 kilometres south-east of Melbourne's CBD, just after 7.30pm yesterday following reports of a suspicious person lingering around a home.
Police arrived in a divvy van, drove up the Fleet Street driveway and got out.

A stolen black Land Cruiser ute appeared from around the corner and drove towards them, officers say.
CCTV footage shows the Land Cruiser ram the police car about a dozen times over about two minutes, police said.
Both vehicles were severely damaged with the police car being turned 90 degrees around by the force.
"I just heard a loud, about half a dozen loud bangs, it was just so loud," a neighbour said.
The two male senior constables suffered minor injuries that required medical treatment.
The male driver of the Land Cruiser, who was shirtless and wearing only black shorts and black socks, got out and climbed onto the roof of the police car.
A neighbour filmed him leap off and run off in a northerly direction on Fleet Street.
"This individual's behaviour was extremely dangerous, extremely reckless, [he] didn't seem to care less about either the police members or the people in the vicinity," Inspector Andrew McKee said.
Police patrolled the area with dogs for seven hours looking for the man, but he remains on the run.
