Boy, 14, killed in horror three-vehicle crash

Police wish to speak with a man who gave assistance to the fatally injured teenager at the scene.

A teenage boy has died following a horrific three-vehicle crash in northern NSW.

The 14-year-old was travelling in a light rigid horse truck towing a caravan about 3pm yesterday on the Kamilaroi Highway, about 10km east of the town Wee Waa in New England, when it was involved in a crash.

An unidentified man - who was not involved in the crash - provided first aid to the boy.

Paramedics also treated the boy, but he died at the scene.

The driver of the horse truck – a 38-year-old man – has been taken to hospital in a stable condition for treatment and mandatory testing.

One horse in the horse truck was euthanised due to injuries, while three other horses received treatment.

The male drivers of the other vehicles involved in the crash - a tractor and semi-trailer - were not injured and underwent mandatory testing.

Police set up a crime scene and crash investigators launched inquiries.

Officers believe the man who first provided assistance at the scene may be able to help their investigation and wish to speak with him.
