A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms star reveals what George R.R. Martin told showrunner
Peter Claffey, who viewers will see as Ser Duncan the Tall in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, opened up about George R.R. Martin’s visit to the show’s set during a panel discussion at CCXP 2025 in Brazil. Claffey mentioned that Martin told the cast on the set that The Hedge Knight, the book the show is based on, is his “favorite thing he’s ever written.” He continued to reveal that the author then warned showrunner and writer Ira Parker, saying, “Please don’t mess it up.” (via Collider)
“He seemed really happy with us and with everyone else, and especially Daniel Ings, who’s playing Lyonel Baratheon. He was incredibly, incredibly happy with it,” Claffey added.
Meanwhile, earlier this year, George R.R. Martin also made his views on the show clear in a blog post on his Not a Blog website. “It’s done,” he wrote, speaking of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. “Ira and his team wrapped the first season months ago, and moved right on to post production. I’ve seen all six episodes now (the last two in rough cuts, admittedly), and I loved them,” he added.
Further mentioning the cast, he stated, “Dunk and Egg have always been favorites of mine, and the actors we found to portray them are just incredible. The rest of the cast are terrific as well. Wait until you guys meet the Laughing Storm. and Tanselle Too-Tall.”
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1 is set for a January 18, 2026, release, and will come out on HBO and HBO Max. Season 2, based on The Sworn Sword, will reportedly begin filming soon.
